project notes

Classroom layout used to present the UHF attendance experiment

a quieter way to take attendance

Passive UHF sticker tags represent students. A directional panel antenna detects them remotely, reducing the deliberate interaction needed by paper registers or one-at-a-time card scanning.

The antenna deployment and teaching wall

built, tested, refined

Developed using Design Science Research and evaluated for speed, accuracy, successful and missed reads, setup time and reliability. The final reader configuration used 27 dBm.

UHF classroom attendance.

My Honours project develops and evaluates a prototype UHF RFID classroom attendance system, aiming to reduce the time and deliberate interaction needed by paper registers and one-at-a-time card scanning.

Computer Science and Information Systems. A Raspberry Pi 5 runs the local Python/Flask application, with a Touch Display 2 for the lecturer and QR-based CSV sharing over the local network.

Developed iteratively using Design Science Research, the prototype was evaluated for attendance speed, detection accuracy, successful and missed reads, setup time, and overall reliability.
